New Website

Gallagher Fluid Seals is pleased to announce that our new website is up and running. Our new website has a lot to offer. Customers can create a personalized profile complete with addresses and phone numbers. A keyword search enables customers to search the entire website.

A complete list of our suppliers is available and customers can view our extensive catalogue of products. Our inventory can also be checked to see if certain items are in stock. Additionally a request for quote, RFQ, can be submitted. Products can be added through an innovative shopping cart, that stays present while the customer navigates the website, making checkout easier and faster.

Customers can contact our qualified engineering staff about their sealing needs whether they have questions about standard or custom applications.

DuPont® Dow

DuPont Dow is a joint venture between DuPont and Dow Chemical Company. Their global headquarters is located in Wilmington, Delaware. They have been the leading global supplier of specialty elastomers and supporting technologies since opening in 1996. DuPont Dow provides innovative solutions to help customers stay ahead of their competition. They are committed to delivering breakthrough technology and to investing in new developments to enhance performance and meet emerging customer needs. DuPont Dow is poised to take advantage of more than 60 years of innovation and experience in synthetic elastomers.

Some of DuPont Dow's end-use applications include automotive systems, semiconductor manufacturing, wire and cable construction, chemical processing, aircraft and aerospace industries, and all high performance parts with high temperature, oil, and chemical resistance. They have the broadest portfolio of general-purpose and specialty elastomers. Their expanded portfolio includes:
Hypalon® (CSM) - shows its strength when exposed to high temperatures and oxidizing chemicals; it has excellent resistance to ozone and weathering.
Kalrez® perfluoroelastomer parts (FFKM) - offer the utmost in heat and chemical resistance. Ideal for demanding applications in chemical processing, semiconductor, and aerospace, they are available in standard and custom shapes.
Neoprene polychloroprene (CH) - offers high oil resistance that still makes it a top performer in a myriad of applications including automotive, adhesives, and construction.
Nordel® (EP, EPDM) - offers consistent processing ideal for use in industrial hoses, impact modification, weatherstripping, and many other applications.
Viton® fluoroelastomer (FKM) - is the most specified fluoroelastomer. Widely used in fuel system seals and hoses, O-rings, shaft seals, and gaskets. Offers excellent resistance to heat, fuels, and chemicals.

Paint Spray Gun Seal Problem - DuPont Dow Viton® Extreme™ ETP-S Fluorocarbon elastomer O-rings

Major industrial users of spray painting equipment were incurring costly downtime each time they had to stop production to change paint or clear blockages. Aggressive solvents, like acetone, do an excellent job of cleaning out the spray nozzles but can ruin the vital O-rings in the spray guns - resulting in frequent seal replacement.
The major challenge was containment of the pressurized air that drives the spray gun. Ordinary O-rings solved the seal problem but they were quickly degraded by exposure to the aggressive cleaning solvents used. As a result, the O-rings were being replaced too frequently. Manufacturers were searching for a long lasting high performance fluoroelastomer.

Originally the spray guns were fitted with a standard FKM O-ring, however they only lasted for one spray cycle until the paint was changed. Replacing the standard FKM O-rings with O-rings of Viton® ETP-S made with Advanced Polymer Architecture offered life cycle improvement. That means a minimum of 25-30 paint-changing cycles. Now the time between seal replacement is a matter of days instead of hours.

Kalrez® 6375UP by DuPont® Dow
Solves Sealing Challenges in "Wet" Semiconductor Processes
In "wet" semiconductor environments, aggressive acids, bases, and solvents can cause elastomeric seals to swell and degrade causing premature seal failure and undesirable extractables. Advancements in polymer development and crosslinking technology have led to improved sealing products like Kalrez® 6375UP. For "wet" environments where acids and bases are a challenge for most elastomers, new Kalrez® 6375UP is the benchmark for elastomer performance.

Kalrez® 6375UP demonstrates excellent resistance to acids, bases, and amine-based strippers. It also has good mechanical strength and excellent compression set properties. These characteristics help to reduce contamination and extend the seal life. Kalrez® 6375UP has a maximum continuous service temperature of 527° F. It has excellent chemical resistance to all types of wet process chemistry.

GALLAGHER GIVEAWAY

Gallagher Fluid Seals will be giving away Gallagher golf shirts to the winners of the application contest. To enter send us the toughest application problem you have ever had to solve. Please include the application, problem, and solution. The winner will be selected based on the degree of difficulty of the problem. The winning story will be highlighted in the next issue along with details of the submitting company. The winner will receive a Gallagher golf shirt.
